In the Pink - finished!

Just before the lawn-mowing service arrived this morning, I took the opportunity and shot a few pictures in the morning sun (and in my jammies).

In the Pink was done in time for the Spring-to-Finish at the end of May. It was inspired by Elisa's Emergency Quilt. And I think I will make another quilt with frayed edges.

One down, one to go!

This one's ready to go to the wash and then it will be finished tomorrow night!

Bloggers' Quilt Festival

Ooops, I almost missed this! When cleaning up my RSS, apparently I was too thorough. But here you go: Elisa's Emergency Quilt

Last year, I received a very disconcerting call that my friend's pregnancy was threatening to go awfully wrong. She's the mother of my older daughter's bestest friend in the whole wide world and I really like her too.

Because quilting is cathartic for me - a substitute for therapy really - and I had seen AmandaJean's Ragged Squares tutorial, I thought this would be a good project to complete in not-a-lot-of-hours.

The quilt was very well received and has even found its way into my dreams, inspiring a new version of it:

In the Pink - it's almost finished too.

157 inches of left- over binding

... drat, I only needed 151"! That means I made 308" - so much for accurate measurements or even eyeballing things!

Final Lay-Out

Though I dreaded the cutting of the fabric, something I really don't enjoy much (may have to do with the fact that I am usually too cheap to have good rotary cutter blades), I cracked on with it last night and am quite pleased with the result.

I pinned all the sections to a sandwich of very light pink cotton stemming from an ancient bed sheet, left-over wadding I had pieced over the holidays and the vichy fabric that I decided against as the background. It's now the backing. All is held together by these fold-away file clips and hung on my "design wall".

Now off to quilt ...

In the Pink - again

I never thought a fat quarter bundle would last me this long. But here you go ... after I finished Elisa's quilt I had a dream (yes, I know!) about a similar one but with different sized blocks.

And this is the lay-out for it. It will require quite a lot of cutting to size and I'm not quite convinced yet that the background fabric is the best joice. But I'm enjoying this one and that's the key!
